ThinkUKnow is an Internet safety program delivering interactive training to parents, carers and teachers through primary and secondary schools across Australia using a network of accredited trainers.
Created by the UK Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) Centre, ThinkUKnow Australia has been developed by the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and Microsoft Australia, and is now proudly supported by ninemsn.
The Kidsmart website introduces students and parents to the SMART acronym of internet safety. This is the basis of our cybersafety curriculum at GWSPS and students are growing in their understanding of how to be SMART online.
The SMART acronym means:
S(Safe) Keep safe by not giving out personal information online
M(Meeting) Not meeting online friends in person unless you have told your parents AND they come with you
A (Accepting) Only accepting emails, texts, IMs, pictures or other files from people that you know
R(Reliable) Sometimes people online are not who they say they are and information that you find on the internet may not always be true
T(Tell) Tell your parents or a trusted adult if you see something, or if you or someone you know is being bullied online
This website provides outstanding information for students and parents on many aspects of online behaviour including online gaming, chat rooms, leaving a digital footprint and much more. There are games, tips and quizzes included.
